Dr. Maureen Miller
Voice
Maureen Miller, mezzo-soprano, is a singing artist of distinction whose beautiful timbre has pleased audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad. Performance credits include solo recitals, opera, and concert appearances in New York City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, San Antonio, and Pittsburgh among others. International credits include performances in Kyoto and Osaka, Japan with the Sakai Opera Company, and solo recitals in Paris and Cyprus. Featured among her concert repertoire are the Rossini Stabat Mater, Beethoven’s Symphony #9, and the Duruflé Requiem. In addition she has won vocal competitions in Milwaukee, New Hampshire, and Detroit and placed third in the National Opera Association competition in Boston.

Other performance activities include the role of Mother Theresa (The Proposal) with the Microscopic Opera of Pittsburgh, soloist with the St. Vincent Camerata (Latrobe, PA.) in performances of Messiah and the Vivaldi Gloria, and a featured artist for the “Joy of Music Concert Series” at Manchester United Methodist Church in St. Louis. In May 2010 she was soloist for the Duruflé Requiem for “Music in a Great Space” at Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh where she served as a regular soloist and member of the Chancel Choir from May 2007 – July 2012. She next served as the Assistant Choir Director at Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin where she coached cantors, choir members, and sang at various liturgies. In 2013 she became the mezzo-soprano soloist and alto section leader for the Chancel Choir at Fox Chapel Presbyterian where she remained until August 2021.

Dr. Miller has extensive teaching experience both in academia and in private endeavors. In August 2017 she joined the faculty at Seton Hill University (Greensburg) as Adjunct Professor of Voice. Prior to that, she taught voice and related subjects at Ball State University (Muncie, Indiana) as a tenured Associate Professor, five years at Southeast Missouri State (Cape Girardeau, MO.), a one year sabbatical substitute at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2002-2003), three years at St. Vincent College (Latrobe, PA.), (2007-2010) and several years teaching voice, class voice, music listening, and music history at WCCC (Youngwood, PA.).
Since 2000 Dr. Miller has maintained a vocal studio in her home teaching individuals of all ages and vocal levels. Many adult students have come to her for help with their vocal needs as cantors, church musicians, community choral singers, and participants in area musical theatre organizations. She has experience teaching younger voices at the Westmoreland Suzuki School in Greensburg and the Community Music Program at Seton Hill University.

Dr. Miller has earned degrees in vocal performance from Duquesne University (B.M), the University of Michigan (M.M.), and Florida State University (D.M.) She has also studied and coached with such notables as Dr. Thomas Houser (New Holland, PA.), Edward Zambara (CASA), Mary Henderson and Donna Loewy (CCM), and Nico Castel and Joan Dornemann (MET).

Maureen was born and raised in Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania and, after many sojourns in her career, has returned to her childhood home to live and teach. She is a life-long member of the Church of St. Paul in Greensburg where she serves as cantor, soloist for weddings and funerals, and lector. She is also an active cantor at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, the Diocese of Greensburg and sings weddings throughout the area. She is an avid golfer and is seen on the course in her spare time.
